south coast

The gateway to the south is the historic, fortified town of Galle. A haven for craft shops, museums, art galleries and which houses a select collection of wonderfully renovated hotels and villas. Accommodation choices tend to be more intimate here – luxury villas vie for attention with independent cabana-style properties. True tranquillity. Beyond Galle and its thriving hinterland is a more peaceful Sri Lanka, sought after by those seeking out cove-like beaches, shimmering turquoise seas and an atmosphere of seclusion.

No beach is more magnificent than Mirissa, a largely undeveloped paradise that is highly recommended for those willing to sacrifice luxury for natural beauty. Dickwella, Tangalle and its surrounding bays are famed for their glorious, uninterrupted stretch of beach.

Yala National Park is by far the best National Park on the South Coast. One day is all that is needed to produce memories that will last a lifetime. Yala is one of the few places, outside of Africa to see spots in front of your eyes! Leopards and elephants might walk within 2 meters of you, so not for the faint hearted. Birdlife is abound and remains a firm favourite amongst fellow bird watchers.
